View, privacy, and material held in balance.
This project is organized around views of downtown Austin, with primary spaces framing the skyline while remaining private from the street.
Planning is driven by safety and access, integrating an elevator and private exterior egress from each bedroom. Deep overhangs shade the rear of the house and extend the structure outward, revealing Douglas fir siding and exposed framing set against slurried limestone.
Material and detail are restrained—plaster and Douglas fir define the interior. A screened porch with a fireplace anchors the house as a central room between inside and out.
